When the better half told me he was going to start up his own business – I was happy for him. He is such a smart, talented man at what he does and I was going to be a billion percent supportive. He soon converted baby gorgeous #2’s room into his mini office – she didn’t mind, as long as her sofa bed was there and she was allowed to sit on the window sill and look out for the neighbours cats – she was fine. I try my best to make the house as homely as possible, paintings, pictures, ornaments, flowers – you name it, ive put them all up. This spare room however, has always looked a little – well, boring. Its got a sofa bed that opens out into a small double for guests (baby Gorgeous #2 thinks this is hers) and a computer table. Not much else really. When the giraffe legged sister came to stay last July 2012, she created a button art piece with the word ‘LOVE’ on a canvas – I think it looks lovely and makes an otherwise dull room look nice. In time, when we have kids, we agreed that this was going to be the baby’s room and so i’m working on making it a little more warm for when the time comes.
He had said to me he wanted a bookcase on the wall – I disagreed as the room is tiny as it is, and putting up a bookcase will only serve to make the room smaller. He then said he needed a whiteboard – whatever for! He said a small one and so to avoid any confrontation, I said ok – a small one would be fine – as long as its not noticed – afterall, it is a guest bedroom.
Today, as we walked home from the train station, he mentioned he received a delivery – the whiteboard. He also said, in his words ‘its a little bigger than I expected’. How big could it be – right? WRONG. Its flippin HUGE. It takes up the whole wall almost and is a terrible eyesore – I thought it was a joke and I’m still hoping it is. Or there will be one very angry wife in this house.Grrrrrr. MEN!
God help me. And him!
Sweetpea and Willow
I love this classical Sweetpea & Willow white bed – its so elegant and screams to be looked at. At £2395.00 for the Super King size – I nearly had a mini heart attack – BUT I do think the bed is exquisite. The better half thinks its pretty, but he is also a realist and knows (as do I of course) that there is nothing wrong with our bed and this is quite a big expense. Why oh why does he always have to be so darn sensible! Continue reading
Lemon Drizzle Cake
The better half loves lemon and although he does not like cake – the only cake he will eat is anything lemon infused. He mentioned he had a lovely Lemon Drizzle Cake a few years back and nothing’s come close to it since – and so – the Lemon Drizzle Cake idea was born. Turned out OK – I’m not a fan of lemon myself and I found the cake quite dense, though everyone and work and of course the better half said it was lovely… perfect with a cup of tea on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
O-J knew that I have a morbid fascination with steak and I love Gaucho. Before moving to London, I only ever had Sirloin, well-done. The better half only ever has his steak rare and 600grams thank you. I have 250grams, and that’s about all I can eat. Anyway, O-J recommended Hawksmoor – apparently the best steak in London. I have been buying from ASOS since I moved to London 7 years ago I love how affordable their clothes are and love how much there is to choose from – in fact, if you raid my closet, 60% of my dresses would have come from ASOS and today was no different – I chose this demure but sexy ASOS corset dress.
I matched it with light brown faux snake skin Kurt Geiger shoes bought in the post Christmas sale.
Today we had a special dinner date at Hawksmoor Restaurant, review of the restaurant here. and so I thought it appropriate to dress up a little more – my ASOS corseted knee-length dress paired up with my faux snake skin Kurt Geiger shoes (bought in the post-christmas sale) was just perfect. I know on the picture the dress looks plain, boring and almost not worth a second look, but I kid you not – the sexy low slash down the front and the corseted back provided just the right amount of friday-night-fun without looking like I tried too hard. I know I know – I should have accesorized, I’m not much of an accesories sort of grl, but I am slowly trying I promise! I thought my wedding and engagement ring would provide enough the bling for the night.
Urghhh – it is LFW (London Fashion Week) . It is so hard to concentrate at work with it going on in the background. And its even harder when all the clothes at the shows I see I cannot afford! Yesterday – I was only interested in one show – Christopher Baileys offering for the penultimate English brand – Burberry. Of course, there were others I loved too. Here are some of my favourites;
- Christopher Kane
- Emilia Wickstead
- David Koma
I love watching NYFW every year – the best of what some of the brightest designers have to offer. The cuts, the patterns, the sheer imagination – its just crazy. What would I do for a ticket – what would I do to actually OWN one of these – oh to dream eh?! Here are my favourites from NYFW – roll on LFW!
Holmes & Yang
After seeing this – I decided to scour the web and found one that’s almost similar to this gorgeous Holmes and Young one from ASOS, Check it out here, for £50 – its a steal!
My favourite – Victoria Beckham
Happy lusting over these lovely pieces! Any you like?
I love getting parcels that say Secret Sales. Why? It means I bought something that’s massively discounted, that I would otherwise never be able to afford at a really REALLY good price. These ‘flash sale’ websites have become increasingly popular lately. On here, you will find high end brands that have either ordered too much of a particular item, or discontinued/old seasons stuff. You also, sometimes get really good skin care products (Cocosa did Perricone MD last month at half price which was amazing – review here and here.
Secret Sales, Cocosa among others are part of the new up and coming groups of site, called ‘flash sale sites’ – hunting ground for savvy consumers after designer fashion, cosmetics, homeware, travel deals among a host of other things, with some sites casually offering as much as 85% off. I get loads of stuff from these sites – and they are brilliant for when you want to splash out on something really nice at Christmas without spending crazy amounts of money (we all know how expensive that can get) More recently, I got some half price Mikey London jewelry (yes I have decided to try and accessorize). I also, bought a pair of Charles Jourdan – discounted from £308 to £154 – a stylish pair of leather courts with a lovely grated gold heel. Its about 4 inches, and has a hidden platform. It might look plain when you first glance at it – but the heel puts you firmly in the ‘winning’ circle!
Used with a pair of jeans – they really do elongate the leg (which is great if like me you dont have very long legs)
Here are the websites should you want to have a gander;
Rejoice my child – for thou are able to fit into, once again, said jeans.
