MAC Viva Glam II

IMG_1092 (667x1000)

OK – I haven’t done a make up post in well over a year.  Why? Because since Ive been pregnant and popped the little one out – there isnt much time to do much else. That didn’t mean that my insane need to keep buying makeup stopped. Oh no. It got worse especially over the Christmas period with all the sales. And so, today, I start the long journey of testing everything Ive accumulated over the last year. Oh yes – its going to be fun! First up – MAC Viva Glam II

IMG_1091 (1000x667)

MAC’s Viva Glam II is a muted pink-mauve shade with a hint of subtle shimmer. This is perfect for when you want to doll up with heavy eyes. Its naturally nude and perfect for daily use too. Its a satin finish so if you didn’t want to, there’s no real need for a gloss to go over.

Easy to go on and easy to come off – one of the best things about MAC lipsticks.  I would recommend a moisturizer for the lips as it can get a little dry as the day progresses. Thumbs up for this shade for sure!

P/S: the perfect liner to go with this lippie is MAC’s Soar.

The real reason I bought this was we went to Hawaii for our honeymoon and I wanted a different colour of lippie to use, after all, the better half has seen all my lippie colours and because this was a special occasion, I wanted something different. I hopped to the MAC pop up shop at Heathrow airport and had a quick nose around – how funny when I caught sight of a lovely lighter shade of Retro, almost a softer shade of it, and as you know, I love MAC Retro (review here).

Picked it up and tried it on – it was lovely. It didn’t stand out as much as Retro, as its quite a little bit lighter, but it stood out nonetheless. I looked at the name of it – would you believe it, it was aptly called Tahiti! Sold – to the lady going to Hawaii with Tahiti! When worn on the lippies, it does give a gorgeous subtle shine, and its red, without being red – if you know what I mean.

Hang Up is a deep berry-brown coloured lipstick that is a tad lighter than MAC Dark Side (review here) Therefore I am a bit more daring with this shade and use it quite often.  I bought this shade a while back when it was the wine-lips fad.

I love it paired with light eyesadow – so as to not take anything away from this lovely deep shade.

Ohhhhhh – MAC’s Dark Side is naughty.  A massive hit of deep burgundy on the lips when applied.  Its really really dark – so be careful with what you pair this with, I went for nude coloured eyes and tied my hair in a high bun – bringing more emphasis to my face and therefore my lips.  I only use this colour when I feel daring enough – I am still a little apprehensive as to whether or not this shade is a tad too dark for me.

If you want a lighter shade of plum, try MAC’s Hang Up (review here)

The better half picked this out for me while we were in New York.  This was my first bright red lipstick, before that, I only knew one other person who used bright red lipstick – my mum. So I laid off the red as I associated it with old(er) women. Off we went to MAC and he picked out the reddest, brightest lipstick I had ever seen. I was scared of it. Nevertheless I tried it on, and it didn’t look half bad – did I look like a girl out of the Addicted to Love video – of course not, have you seen their long legs compared to my stumpy ones!? It does certainly stand out again my dark features though, and I use this colour when we go to fancy places, with a dash of lip glass in Venetian. I think there is a lip glass in Russian Red – but I wanted something a little lighter and Venetian didn’t take away the gorgeous red-ness of the red lippie.

I had run out of liquid foundation and so during one lunch made my way down to the MAC store in Covent Garden. I bought what I came for, and then some. Of course I bought more than what I came for – I have cosmetic buying disease remember?! Anyhow, I met with my favourite artist G, and said I was looking for a nudey-pink lipstick. Enter Viva Glam IV. A gorgeous light dusty rose-pink colour with tiny gold flecks that just emit the right amount of shimmer – just enough to get your lippies noticed, but not over the top. This is currently my work lipstick and its perfect as it stands out enough against my almost non-existent make-up face for Monday-Thursday (Friday is just another day altogether!)

Just a perfect little number for me – can’t wait till summer is here, I reckon this is going to be the perfect colour for BBQ days!

MAC Faux was bought from Hong Kong, after I saw a look recreated in a magazine and was convinced that it would look good on me too.  The lip glass to go on top this particular lippie was MAC lipglass in Oyster Girl (review here), so of course, I had to get that too.

The lipstick itself is a very muted matte-pink, a little on the light side for my dark skin tone to be honest. When used with the lip glass, it made me look a little washed out – nothing wrong with the colours of course, just that it didn’t look right on me so I never used it again. Boo-hoo. Sorry MAC – this lipstick is a no go for me. 🙁

I never tire of this gorgeous red-but-not-quite-red, kind of like a brown. Personally I would say it’s a darker shade of brown-red, matte finish and like the name implies, looks like a colour adored in the 80’s.  It does stand out more than some of my other ones and its one I use when I am out and about on the town. Really sexy colour and it goes well with most clothing colours too.

MAC Hug Me is a creamy hue of pale pink, almost flesh coloured. I use this colour when I have dark eyeshadow on to make the look stand out a little more.  Try MAC Nehru (review here) or MAC Beauty Marked (review here) if you want to stick with with the MAC brand.

I think this colour is also very wearable by day with minimal make up for that light look too.  It does not make you look washed out, as some pale pinks do. One of my favourite lippies for sure, especially on my nude days.

MAC See Sheer was bought when I got married, I went to the MAC shop and told the artist – I wanted something not too bright, not too pale, neither too boring or flashy, but must stand out, I was the bride after all!! You can imagine my surprise when she replied, ‘I have just the colour!’ MAC See Sheer was her name, a soft but stand out without poking you in the eye coral pink with lovely shine. It was light enough to be the blushing bride, but stood out enough to make people notice – just what the Dr ordered. It has a lovely shine to it too – no need for gloss (unless you want insanely glossy lippies then by all means!)

Everytime I put this lippie on, I think about my wedding day and it makes me smile.
