London Marathon 2013

I absolutely love the London Marathon.  I remember going to see the runners with a baby BG1 when we first got him in April 2007, the run was the immediate week after we got him – and believe you me, the better half got half the single ladies in the crowd talking to him – he did mention that if he had known a little puppy would get him this much attention – he should have got one sooner! Ha. So, BG1 is used to the race, and we have seen every race since 2006 – BG2 is not as pleased, she hates the crowds, hates the fuss and the loud cheering scares her, so she sits firmly in my arms as I frantically shout and (try to wave) words of encouragement.  The crowds are electric and everyone is always in a joyful mood.

The runners – all of them so inspirational and I always feel so proud and happy to be part of the day.  We are so lucky that we live along the route – the street is closed and we literally walk 5 minutes out to see them. Because of that, we didn’t have to wake up that early.

I was in time to catch the men’s elite, women’s elite and the wheelchair race.  I love seeing the pack run! Then, the fun part. The rest of the people. The inspirational people that run for charities, for family, for loved ones.  My favourites are always the ones who don the costumes – the rhinos (save the rhino charity) the nurses (Macmillan nurses) and of course, the cape crusaders. All the runners – are really really brilliant.  Every year I tell myself, why not – maybe one year, I could try it. Then i hear how long it is and chicken out.  This year, my cousin ran his third London Marathon, so so proud of him.

Here are some pictures from today;

Richard is the current world record holder for leg amputees in both the half and Olympic marathon distances – he is also the 200m Gold medalist of the London 2012 Olympics Paralympics event.  Check out those biceps – hot or what! So happy we managed to see him to cheer him on!
