The World – Luxury Residences at Sea

Look who parked up?! The World – Luxury Residences at Sea of course! The better half (while on his way to the post office for me) saw this and kindly took some pictures for me so I could write about it tonight. She really is a commanding figure and boy, is she HUGE.

What is The World? At 644 feet, The World is the largest privately owned yacht on the planet.  The residents owns one or more of the 165 private on-board residences, and collectively, they own the ship. Where the ships sails – that’s all up to the 165 residents who plan the yearly itinerary.  Usually, she docks at each port for about 2-5 days.

Collectively, she has 165 residential units (106 apartments, 19 studio apartments, and 40 studios), all owned by the ship’s residents. It carries between 100 and 300 residents and their guests. As of 2012, Wiki has her prices as:

  • Studio (Ocean Studio 661), 328 sq ft (30.5 m2), list price of US$600,000.
  • 2 Bed (Ocean Residence 1006), 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath, list price US$2,950,000.
  • Suite (World Suite 1108/1110), list price of US$13,500,000.

Monthly homeowner dues range from $20,000 per month (for the smaller units) and up, and cover fuel, crew, maintenance and a meal allowance for the owner.

Of course, I don’t know if these prices have gone up or down, and on The World’s website, they don’t exactly list the prices.

Just to get it into perspective - she is HUGE!

Could you live your whole life on a boat? Going from place to place, visiting differently counties throughout the whole year, letting the waves gently rock you to into a sweet sleeping lullaby? I don’t know – I mean, where do my two little babies go for a quick wee – in the sea? I love the sound of no work, being on a constant holiday, but I do wonder if I will get bored of it (after some time of course). And what about my sea sickness? Throwing up all the time is highly inappropriate and quite gross really – what would my sea-neighbours think of me!?

all aboard The World!

all aboard The World!

Anyway, it’s not like my lottery numbers came up today, so for now The World – I will have to admire you from a distance and marvel at your splendour.

Speak soon lovelies,
